SNB&T, a Decade of Financial Education Honors

MADISON — For the tenth year in a row, the staff of The Stephenson National Bank & Trust (SNB&T) earned the Financial Education Recognition Award for their outstanding financial education efforts.
The Wisconsin Bankers Association (WBA) Personal Economics Program (PEP) honored 57 banks from around the state with State PEP Bank Awards at the WBA Consumer Education Conference for their commitment to growing financial literacy in their communities.

SNB&T received this award due to its commitment to growing financial literacy in the community. Twenty six bankers from SNB&T reached more than 1,144 individuals in Marinette, Menominee, and Oconto through presentations about the basics of money management, saving, budgeting and more.

Recent activities include: making presentations to high schoolers for Get Smart About Credit Day, visiting elementary and middle schoolers for Teach Children to Save Day, hosting seminars, making various classroom presentations to students of all ages, hosting bank tours, sponsoring Newspaper in Education, and funding local scholarships.

“Educating children, teens and adults about personal finance not only benefits individuals, but our communities as a whole,” said Kurt Bauer, WBA president and CEO. “We commend these bankers for carrying out a long-standing industry commitment to improving financial literacy.”

In the past year, 804 bankers involved in WBA’s nationally recognized Personal Economics Program reached more than 64,150 individuals.

Throughout the month of April, bankers gave 1,387 Teach Children to Save Day presentations reaching 28,243 students at schools, community centers and workshops. On April 27, 2010, hundreds of bankers will again take part in National Teach Children to Save Day to encourage children to develop healthy money habits.
