Bankers Speak with State Leaders
about Financial Crisis |

Local, state bankers

Two senior vice presidents at The Stephenson National Bank & Trust (SNB&T), Dan Peterson, Executive Vice President and Dave Meyer, Chief Financial Officer, joined more than 150 bankers from around the state on Wednesday, March 25 for the first ever Wisconsin Bankers Association (WBA) Capitol Day in Madison. |
“Many business groups hold ‘Capitol Days’ each year,” Meyer said. “Local and state bankers thought it was important, now more than ever, to talk with our elected leaders at the state Capitol about the financial issues affecting our local communities.” |
The economic issues of the past several months prove the theory that the most effective way for policy-makers to get accurate information and to make informed decisions is when they hear the facts directly from Wisconsin’s bankers. |
“Wisconsin bankers were able to give our lawmakers a crash course on ‘Banking 101,” Peterson said. “Meeting one-on-one with the same people who create laws, taxes, and regulation affecting our livelihoods, we were able to convey the point that Wisconsin’s bankers continue to perform well compared to our peers around the nation in spite of the economic downturn. |
“It’s important that our elected officials understand when they’re writing and passing laws to deal with the financial crisis that Wisconsin banks didn’t write subprime loans and are still well-capitalized with money to lend.” |
Peterson and Meyer met personally with Jay Wadd, Chief of Staff to Senator Dave Hansen, and with John Nygren State Representative. |
