SNBT Steps Up To The Military |
WWII Memorial on display at Marinette SNBT Office through June 10, 2011 |

The Stephenson National Bank & Trust (SNBT) donated the balance of the cost to restore the WWII Memorial. The newly designed memorial, displayed at the National Guard Armory in Marinette, lists the names of all the soldiers from the tri-county area Company A, who have been killed in action between 1940-1945. Also listed are the countries and campaigns where battles were fought and numerous awards received. |

The original memorial was hand-painted in the early 70’s by members of Company A Marinette National Guard. After 40 years on display in the Armory, the sign was in need of repair as names began to fall off and the frame had been damaged. The Military 20 Year Club, with Richard J. Boye as project chairman took on the restoration project. It began last November with countless hours of research and donation requests. |

“When I approached the Bank, I was requesting a small donation to help defray some of the restoration costs,” said CSM (Ret.) Richard J. Boye, memorial project chairman. “When SNBT offered to pay the balance of the costs - I was speechless to say the least. This display is our way of preserving a part of history, and I enjoy doing this for my comrades.” |

“This is a worthwhile project and I can’t begin to convey the debt of gratitude owed to the Guard,” said John Reinke, SNBT president. “What better way to say thank you for their years of service than by immortalizing the names of those men and women who gave their lives for our country.” |

The refurbished memorial will be revealed on Memorial Day following the ceremony at Forest Home Cemetery. The 6 foot wide by 30 inch high WWII commemoration will be placed in the Armory’s front entrance. The public is welcome to an Open House at the Marinette Armory, the program includes a military gun salute, a solemn rendition of “Taps”, and a reading of the names of 20 Year Club members who have passed away. |

Afterward, the memorial will be on display from May 31 through June 10 at SNBT’s Marinette office at 1820 Hall Avenue during regular business hours. |

At SNBT, the emphasis on giving back to the community has been a long-standing tradition. “We have a strong history of community service, and this donation reaffirms our commitment to the areas we serve,” said Reinke. This year, SNBT employees collectively pledged to volunteer over 6,700 hours of community service. Additionally, the bank distributes almost $50,000 annually to over 100 area organizations. |

“We are proud of the contributions we make throughout the year, but they pale in comparison to the price these folks paid for our freedom,” said Reinke. “We are pleased to do our part for the restoration of this memorial.” |

The redesign has allowed the sign to be removable so it can travel to various veteran, military, or other public events, it may be displayed by a business if requested. |
